APPEARANCE Standing at 5'10" tall, with a slender build and a weight of about 145 lbs, Neil has a body that could more or less be described as 'ordinary' - perhaps a bit light, but ordinary - nothing too far out of the norm. The same, however, cannot be said about his appearance.

With startling crimson eyes, a tangle of messy brown hair that was so dark it might as well be black, and a set of tattoos on his face and hands that share the same design as the suit symbols of playing cards, Neil is a person that's quite hard to forget. His complexion pale, it contrasts with the dark clothing he so often wears. Some would say that his appearance could very well be that of death, should it ever be personified as a young male.

THE PERSONALITY

Tactless, equipped with a dry sense of humour and an endless source of snark and assorted snide remarks, Neil Montgomery is a person that seems to have an inbuilt, irresistible instinct to comment on any and all situations that he (as well as any companions that he may or may not have) finds himself in. He has an uncanny ability to appear calm and composed almost all the time, being seemingly unfazed by most things and simply not caring about things that would normally enrage, annoy or irk most other people.

That isn’t to say that he can’t get angry or riled up, no – it’s just difficult to do so, and half the time, he wouldn’t show it.

However, when his anger rises to the point where he doesn’t even bother hiding it, it means he’s really angry. Beyond that, even. Woe betide anyone who pushes Neil as far as this point – though seeing as nobody has seen him this angry before, it’s quite safe to say that such incidents are very rare at its most common.

Another defining trait in his personality is his utter and total disregard for rules, orders, formalities and associated things – he does whatever he wants, when he wants to. His actions may coincide with them, should they make sense, but these things really do mean nothing to him at all - a surprising attitude for a bookman to adopt, seeing as there are many rules for them to follow. However, since his personality is so in line with the bookman rules and regulations anyway (e.g. making a point of not doing anything until he absolutely has to, avoiding attachments, staying as unbiased as is humanly possible, etc), so this attitude rarely if ever affects his position as a bookman.

In a nutshell: Neil is a person that, on the outside, appears to always be calm and collected, being largely unaffected by most things. He appears cold, indifferent, and often drives people away with snide remarks and other such things. On the inside - a side that, thanks to his job, is something that most people would never see - he actually does care, and really is benevolent in nature. The fact that he does nothing until his actions are absolutely necessary and his general snarkiness stays prevalent regardless of which side he decides to show, though.

MISCELLANEOUS FACTS

- On the left side of his cheek, there is a tattoo resembling the suit symbol for spades. Similarly, there is a diamond tattoo on his left hand and a club on his right, as well as an oddly-modelled heart tattoo across his back.

LEVEL 01

UNACTIVATED In its inactive state, Spectre takes the form of a standard 52 card deck, with black-and-white covers of an ornate design. It seems quite ordinary, all things considered. Spectre is usually tucked away in one of Neil's many pockets, most likely in the inside of his coat.

ACTIVATED When activated, Spectre becomes a large, entirely black battle scythe two metres in length, the suit symbols engraved upon its blade. It is translucent, and emits a distinctive black aura, tinged with electric blue.

OVERALL ABILITY Apart from the obvious advantages of having a large battle scythe, Spectre grants the user a small, positive increase in all physical parameters, and allows him to take the aura around the innocence and turn it into a solid symbol in the air before him, representing one of the four suits in a standard playing card deck. When broken, these symbols achieve different effects according to the suit they correspond with.

PAGE OF CLUBS: SHADE IMPULSE Spectre loses a portion of its black aura and creates a large black symbol in the air, not unlike the symbol for the suit of clubs. If it shatters, it creates a black sphere of energy, which will then move to an area designated by the caster, no further than twenty metres away from him, phasing through and damaging anything it touches. After three seconds in the designated area, the ball will explode, causing first-degree burns to anyone within range, even the caster. When this happens, the symbol of clubs etched into the scythe’s blade will give off a bluish-white glow that lasts for about thirty seconds – until this glow disappears, this technique is rendered unusable. Has a cool-down rate of one post.

KNIGHT OF DIAMONDS: KNIFE CURTAIN Spectre’s black aura loses its cobalt (electric blue) tinge, and creates a large blue symbol in the air, not unlike the symbol for the suit of diamonds. When broken, this symbol shatters into twenty sharp pieces of solidified energy, and will launch themselves at a target designated by the caster. The damage done by this technique isn’t significant on its own, even if all the pieces find their mark, but it’s very fast and can be used twice before the diamond symbol on Spectre’s blade lights up and renders it unusable for one post.
